Northwestern Pro Day

Per NFL Prospect analyst Gil Brandt:

Fifteen NFL teams had scouts on hand to watch eight Northwestern players work out indoors on AstroTurf.

Buccaneers LBs coach Joe Barry and Eagles LBs coach Bill Shuey came not to see a Northwestern player, but to conduct a workout with Western Illinois’ Jason Williams. Williams worked out on a wooden gym basketball floor at Western Illinois’ pro day, but that surface was not ideal for running drills. So Barry and Shuey came to see him conduct another workout, and Williams did not disappoint, running a 4.44 and a 4.49 in the 40.

Here are the notable players from Northwestern:

RB Tyrell Sutton (5-7 3/4, 213 pounds) ran a 4.64 and 4.67 in the 40, had a 30-inch vertical jump, a 4.19 short shuttle, a 6.90 three-cone drill and 12 bench press lifts. He also did position drills.

DT John Gill (6-3 1/8, 302 pounds) ran a 4.90 and 4.95 in the 40, had a 31-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 1-inch broad jump, a 4.40 short shuttle, a 7.09 three-cone drill and 29 bench press lifts.

WR Eric Peterman (6-0 1/8, 201 pounds) ran a 4.48 and 4.50 in the 40, had a 31-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 10-inch broad jump, a 4.10 short shuttle, a 6.45 three-cone drill and 11 bench press reps. He is a special teams ace and could be a good third receiver in the NFL.

I think that Jason Williams has really helped himself out, he's got great size as a strongside linebacker and he has been incredibly impressive in his running drills and is probably a dark horse for potential early-mid 2nd day consideration just based on potential and workouts alone.

As for the Northwestern players, John Gill is really the only player who impresses me, another defensive tackle who was not invited to Combine and should have been. He is an animal with great range, strength and skill and reminds me a lot of former Northwestern defensive tackle Louis Castillo. I think he can be a UT in a 4-3 or a DE in a 3-4 and I think he's really helped himself into high draft consideration.
