Matty's Big Board Prospect Countdown: 5!

Hey folks, the Super Bowl is behind us and it's time to focus on the next big event and that is the all powerful and mighty draft, which has the ability to take a team from the bottom of the barrel and turn them into a playoff caliber team (ex. Dolphins and Falcons). What I plan on doing is twice a week until draft weekend, I'll be counting down my top 25 prospects, discuss their strengths, weaknesses, overall impact in the NFL and potential landing spot. So, without further delay, I bring you the player who ranked number 5... oh snap, into the top 5 now!

5. Michael Crabtree, WR Texas Tech Red Raiders

2008 Season Stats:
93 receptions, 1135 yards, 18 TDs

Career Stats:
227 receptions, 3097 yards, 40 TDs

Personal Stats:
6'1" 215 lbs. RS SO

Strengths:

Crabtree has the body of a solid possession wide receiver, good height, nice weight and very long arms and big hands. Amazing body control and ball skills, he'll high point the ball with the best of him as he is a tremendous leaper and he'll make the tough catches against the sidelines and always get his feet in bounds. He has a tough demeanor and will fight for extra yardage after catching the ball and does not go down easily. He's not afraid to go up over the middle either and catch the ball in traffic, he is also a willing blocker. Great athleticism, a hard worker and a leader. Will compete day in and day out to make himself and his teammates better and has the career production in only two years that most wide receivers dream of graduating after four years with.

Weaknesses:

Does not have great timed speed and fails to be a vertical threat or get immediate separation against press coverage and needs to improve his blocking. Durability is a concern as well as coming from a spread offense that exaggerated his stats. Not to mention only 2 years of real experience under his belt.

Overall:

An extremely talented wide receiver who would fit any team. If it wasn't for his foot surgery he could go from anywhere from #1 overall to #8, there is no way he gets past Jacksonville. He is a tough player who makes all the necessary catches in clutch moments, it will take him some time to get used to the route tree that NFL wide receivers use but I think once he has a firm grasp on it he will dominate as he is like a combination of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. An amazing player and some team is going to be Crankin' Dat Crabtree come draft day.

Projected NFL Destination:

With the 3rd selection in the NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select...

There you have it folks, be sure to tune in later for Prospect #4!
