Dez Bryant to lose College Eligibility

Oklahoma State's main playmaker and the potential #1 wide receiver in the 2010 draft may have no more college snaps left to pad his already impressive highlight reel. As reported by the New York Times Dez Bryant has lost his eligibility to finish his junior and senior seasons with the Cowboys because of an infraction that can be simply put "failed to openly disclose to the NCAA the full details of his interaction with a former NFL player not affiliated with OSU."

Who was that former NFL player not affiliated with Oklahoma State?

IT'S YA BOY PRIME!

Yup, good ol' Prime is the reason for another wide receivers strife, first Crabtree, now Dez Bryant and it is only a matter of time before the Devine one, Noel Devine of West Virginia finds a way to have his friendship with Deion Sanders blow up in his face.

Anyways, Dez Bryant was over at Prime's house having a good ol' time and he was questioned about it, he lied and said he didn't visit and the NCAA is not a fan of being lied to. So now Dez Bryant faces massive repercussions for a little white lie he told in a panic.

Bryant currently has 17 receptions, 323 yards and 4 TDs for the Oklahoma State Cowboys and has been an integral part of their three headed offensive attack along with QB Zac Robinson and RB Kendall Hunter. However, it is likely that Dez Bryant loses some huge stock in the draft and though he is eligible to declare he very well could find his way back into the NCAA for one more year if he deems so.

I think Dez would be well served to appeal to the courts and throw himself at the mercy of the board on the defense that he was a confused and panicked kid and didn't really know the consequences of his actions. That is his best recourse if he wants to knock off some of the flack that he is sure to get come draft prep and interview time, or he could take the Mike Williams route and head to Athlete's Plus and work his butt off in order to be in game shape for April and the draft. Either way, the poor kid has some real decisions to make ahead of him and I for one hope it works out well for him.

Future NFL Prospect of the Week

Case Keenum
QB Houston

6'2" 210 lbs. Junior

Week 2 vs. Oklahoma State
32/46 for 366 yards and 3 TDs
5 rushes, 16 yards and 1 TD

Case Keenum has shown why he is one of the most prolific passers to come to the University of Houston by leading the 2-0 Cougar team past #5 ranked Oklahoma State. Case Keenum out performed opposing offense littered with potential NFL draft picks by lighting them up to the tune of 382 total yards and 4 touchdowns.

Case Keenum has solid mechanics and skills and could be a future NFL star if he can overcome the pass happy Cougar offense and turn his spread offense mechanics into under center mechanics. He has a strong enough arm, he has decent accuracy and he is sneaky athletic when moving around the pocket and making things happen when said pocket breaks down. He projects right now to be a mid-late second day pick if he were to come out this year, but if he waits a year and goes back to hone his skills he could easily move into the second round much like his predecessor Kevin Kolb.

Keenum has 725 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2 games this season, but the game against #5 Ok. State will put Houston on the map as a potential BCS buster and if Keenum can keep it up he might have a chance at some Heisman votes.

Prospect Update: Brandon Pettigrew

Per Buffalo News.com:

"Oklahoma State held its pro day workout for NFL scouts Wednesday, but star tight end Brandon Pettigrew did not work out. Pettigrew, who is the top tight end in the draft and a first-round candidate, strained a hamstring working out last Tuesday at the Michael Johnson Performance Center in Texas. Pettigrew said he will begin visiting NFL teams next week, and his first visit is to Buffalo on Monday."

I believe that Brandon Pettigrew could find his way to the Buffalo Bills with the eleventh selection in the 2009 Draft, however, the Bills may be looking to cause one of the teams who really needs a TE to trade up to get him [namely the Eagles and Falcons] and allow them to move back and fill more needs, but Pettigrew would fit nicely in the new and improved Buffalo offense.

Oklahoma State Pro Day

As per NFL Prospect analyst Gil Brandt:

Oklahoma State TE Brandon Pettigrew was nice enough to inform everyone that he would not work out today because of a pulled hamstring. He will set up a date with his agent to work out for teams in about two weeks.

The wind was so strong in Stillwater, Okla., that none of the players who did work out were able to do positional drills. They ran the workout drills indoors on a rubber track.

The most notable prospect who worked out was DB Jacob Lacey. He measured in at 5-foot-9 7/8, 177 pounds. He ran 4.50 and 4.45 seconds in the 40-yard dash and had a 41-inch vertical, a 9-foot and 11-inch broad jump, a 4.25-second short shuttle, a 7.51-second three-cone drill and 11 bench-press repetitions.
