Matty's Rookie of the Week

The 2009-2010 season has begun and my weekly rookie of the week is back. We had a lot of great performances this week, from quarterbacks and wide receivers especially. So, without further delay here is All Day Football's first Rookie of the Week of the season.

Matty's Rookie of the Week

Matthew Stafford
6'3" 232 lbs.
Georgia
1st round pick, 1st overall
21/36 for 241 yards and 1 TD, 2 rushes for 23 yards

Matthew Stafford hasn't yet lived up to his billing as the 1st overall selection but he is well on his way to getting there leading the Lions to their first victory since 2007. He showed poise in the pocket, he showed mobility and escapability and showed the power and touch that his throwing arm possesses as he threw some very pretty passes to Calvin "Megatron" Johnson and Bryant "Wishes He Has Optimus" Johnson.

Runner Ups:

Offense

LeSean McCoy
5'10" 198 lbs.
Pittsburgh
2nd round pick, 53rd overall
20 rushes for 84 yards and 1 TD, 1 rec., 9 yards

Defense

Victor Butler
6'2" 246 lbs.
Oregon State
4th round pick, 110th overall
3 tackles, 2 sacks, FF

Be sure to check back next week for the Week 4 ROTW!

Oregon State Pro Day

Per NFL Prospect analyst Gil Brandt:

Here are the notable prospects from Corvallis at the Oregon State Pro Day:

CB Brandon Hughes (5-10 5/8, 181 pounds) had a 37-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 8-inch broad jump and kept everything else from the combine.

CB Keenan Lewis (6-0 3/4, 191 pounds) came in 17 pounds less than what he weighed at the combine. He told people that he weighed so much more at the combine because he was given creatine at his workouts to his increase his weight. His playing weight is about 194. He ran a 4.49 and 4.51 in the 40, had a 38 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 10-inch broad jump, a 4.42 short short, a 6.89 three-cone drill and has 20 bench press reps.

G Andy Levitre (6-2 3/8, 307 pounds) had a 7.67 three-cone drill and kept everything else from the combine. He did position drills.

WR Sammie Stroughter (5-9 1/2, 185 pounds) ran a 4.45 twice in the 40 and had a 30-inch vertical. He kept everything else from the combine.

DE Victor Butler (6-2 1/8, 239 pounds) ran a 4.72 twice in the 40, had a 33-inch vertical, a 9-foot, 11-inch broad jump and looked good in the drills

DE/LB Slade Norris (6-2, 232 pounds) ran a 4.65 in the 40 and pulled a hamstring and was done for the day.

I think of all the Oregon State players Andy Levitre, Keenan Lewis and Sammie Stroughter have the best chances of being drafted. Levitre is easily a top 5 guard and could go as early as the late second round while Lewis and Stroughter are mid second day prospects. Someone might take a flier on Brandon Hughes based on his speed and potential but there is no real elite talent in the Oregon State 09 class.
