Matty's Big Board Prospect Countdown: #9!

Hey folks, the Super Bowl is behind us and it's time to focus on the next big event and that is the all powerful and mighty draft, which has the ability to take a team from the bottom of the barrel and turn them into a playoff caliber team (ex. Dolphins and Falcons). What I plan on doing is twice a week until draft weekend, I'll be counting down my top 25 prospects, discuss their strengths, weaknesses, overall impact in the NFL and potential landing spot. So, without further delay, I bring you the player who ranked number 9... that's right baby, we've cracked into the top 10!

9. Malcolm Jenkins, CB Ohio State Buckeyes

2008 Season Stats:
57 tackles, 3 INTs, 2 FFs, 9 Pass Def.

Career Stats:
196 tackles, 11 INTs, 3 FFs, 17 Pass Def.

Personal Stats:
6'1" 204 lbs. SR

Strengths:

Jenkins has great size and strength with very long arms. He is the prototypical size for a corner you want manning one side of your defense at the next level. He is very athletic and will make plays in the passing game and will also come up and hit in the run game. He has great hands and ball skills and will come down with jump balls or bat them away before they become a threat. He's very powerful and gives a very good punch at the line that jams WRs and knocks them off their intended routes, he has great football IQ and understands route progressions and will be in the right position more often then not to make big plays. Confident, durable and a leader on the field and off the field and adds some versatility as a CB/FS hybrid.

Weaknesses:

Jenkins biggest weakness is his lack of straight line speed. When he is beaten off the ball he is done, he doesn't have elite speed to recover on faster wide receivers. He has tighter hips then I would have liked and has trouble flipping them and running stride for stride. He's a tad over aggressive and his mistakes lead to big gains.

Overall:

Malcolm Jenkins is a hard prospect to decipher, he could be a CB in a Cover 2 or a FS in a man cover scheme. I think his skills at CB are too much to deny and too much is made of his lack of speed, with safety help over the top I feel he can be a solid press cover corner that teams like Green Bay or New England would appreciate. I don't think he'll be a FS but if he was he could very likely excel at that position much like Antrell Rolle considering his combination of strength and speed.

Projected NFL Destination:

With the 8th selection in the NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select...

There you have it folks, be sure to tune in later this week for Prospect #8!

Prospect Update: Vaughn Martin

It seems as though another Canadian is on the NFL Draft horizon. First Bishop's RB Jamall Lee and now Western DT Vaughn Martin. Both were recently talked about by NFL.com writer Steve Wyche and it seems as though if they aren't drafted in the later rounds they could see themselves getting consideration as UDFA or camp invites. Kind of like former McMaster RB Jesse Lumsden or Ottawa OT Ibrahim Khan.

Vaughn Martin weighed in at 327 lbs. and measured at 6'4". For a defensive tackle that is pretty friggin' gigantic. He also ran the 40-yard dash in 5.04 seconds and bench pressed 225 pounds 32 times. It was a pretty impressive workout for a Canadian defensive linemen who are known for being a tad slower and a tad weaker but he's looked quite explosive... just ask one of the Charger's scouts.

Something tells me he doesn't get drafted but he may make a team as a camp guy, spend a year on practice squad and move up when he has matured because something tells me he hasn't quite hit that part of his life yet.

Louisville Pro Day

17 NFL reps were at the recent Louisville Pro Day, no Cardinal player is gaining more steam in the move up the draft boards then the big blond and blue eyed center Eric Wood. Wood measured in at 6'4" 310 lbs. and stood on all his numbers from the combine and stuck to positional workouts where he looked really good and is definitely gaining some ground on top centers Alex Mack and Max Unger.

As for the remaining Cardinals contingent, their stats can be found here courtesy of the lovely people at NFL.com.

QB Hunter Cantwell (6-4 3/8, 236 pounds) did position drills but otherwise stood on his numbers from the combine.

RB/FB Brock Bolen (5-11 1/2, 233 pounds) ran the 40 in times of 4.77 and 4.80 with a 31 1/2-inch vertical leap and a 9-foot, 2-inch broad jump. He did the short-shuttle drill in 4.35 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.95 seconds, and did 24 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press.

DT Adrian Grady (6-1 1/4, 303 pounds) ran the 40 in 5.20 and 5.18 seconds with a 33-inch vertical and an 8-foot, 10-inch broad jump. He put up times of 4.63 in the short shuttle and 7.52 in the three-cone drill, and he didn’t participate in the bench press.

CB Woodny Turenne (5-11 3/8, 183 pounds) did the 40 in times of 4.49 and 4.54 seconds with a 32 1/2-inch vertical and a 10-foot broad jump. He had a 4.39 short shuttle and a 6.93 three-cone drill, with 12 reps on the bench.

Cantwell and Bolen are late round prospects and the other two fellas will be lucky to be camp invites.

Western Kentucky Pro Day

Yawn. *shakes awake* oh, yeah, Western Kentucky Pro Day. * 8 teams, 1 notable prospect, no potential draft hope. Results courtesy of NFL.com of course, at least their mascot is hilarious as it looks like Kool-Aid Guy and Grimace from McDonalds made the beast with two backs.

OL Greg Ryan (6-3 7/8, 304 pounds) ran the 40 in times of 5.22 and 5.25 seconds with a 31 1/2-inch vertical and a 9-foot, 4-inch broad jump. He had a 4.55 short shuttle and a 7.93 three-cone drill, with 31 strength lifts on the bench.

-Matty

Richmond Pro Day

31 NFL teams were in attendance to watch Div 1-AA Champions the Richmond Spiders Pro Day... however, more specifically, they were there to watch Richmond DE Lawrence Sidbury who has vaulted himself from mere obscurity to potentially a first day selection based on his size, speed and production. Here the results from the recent pro day courtesy of NFL.com:

DE/LB Lawrence Sidbury Jr. (6-2 1/2, 265 pounds) stood on his numbers from the combine.

RB Josh Vaughan (5-11 1/4, 224 pounds) had times of 4.59 and 4.63 in the 40-yard dash, with a 37-inch vertical leap and a 9-foot, 11-inch broad jump. He had times of 4.15 seconds in the short shuttle and 7.10 seconds in the three-cone drill, with 36 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press.

TE Joe Monteverde (6-4 1/2, 247 pounds) ran the 40 in 4.85 and 4.77 and had a 35 1/2-inch vertical with a 9-foot, 10-inch broad jump. He had a 4.31 short shuttle and a 7.06 three-cone drill, and didn’t participate in the bench.

Lawrence Sidbury is a 1st day selection, the other two could be late round selections as they tested quite well.

-Matty

Coastal Carolina Pro Day

5 NFL were represented at the recent Coastal Carolina Pro Day. Unfortunately, no big names this year like there were last year in Jerome Simpson and Tyler Thigpen. Here are the results courtesy of NFL.com:

RB Jamie Fordham (5-10 7/8, 210 pounds) ran the 40 in 4.71 and 4.67 with a 35-inch vertical and a 10-foot, 1-inch broad jump. He ran a 4.42 short shuttle and a 7.61 three-cone drill, with 16 reps on the bench.

DB Marrio Norman (6-0 1/2, 199 pounds) had times of 4.69 and 4.67 in the 40 with a 31-inch vertical and a 9-foot, 3-inch broad jump. He had a 4.48 short shuttle and a 7.43 three-cone, with 20 reps on the bench.

CB Whittmin Reese (5-8 1/2, 196 pounds) had times of 4.44 and 4.50 in the 40 with a 36 1/2-inch vertical and a 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump. He had a 4.32 short shuttle and a 7.41 three-cone time with 14 strength lifts.

UDFA all around.

Matty's Big Board Prospect Countdown: 10!

So, without further delay, I bring you the player who ranked number 10...

10. Mark Sanchez, QB Southern California Trojans

2008 Season Stats:
241/366, 3207 yards and 35 TDs, 10 INTs

Career Stats:
313/487, 3965 and 41 TDs, 16 INTs

Personal Stats:
6'2" 227 lbs. JR

Strengths:

His biggest strength is his "it" factor, Sanchez is a winner and a leader. He has spirit and never give up attitude. He also has a good frame and size, he is quite athletic and moves well in the pocket, he has a very good delivery and puts the ball in the spots it needs to be. He has a solid but not elite arm, he can fit the ball into tight spots and can make every essential throw in the NFL from the deep comeback to the quick out. Moves well on the run and throws well and is sneaky athletic when the pocket breaks down. Plays with a high football IQ and reads defenses well and still has room to grow. He loves the game of football, has a great work ethic and is great with the media.

Weaknesses:

His most primary weaknesses are his lack of experience and his durability. He has only one full season of starting experience and though it was in a pro style offense he really could have benefited from another year at USC. As for durability, he had a broken thumb in 2007 and then a dislocated knee cap before the 2008 season. He also has some off the field issues that were never fully disclosed as he accused of sexual assault. As for his game, a violent pass rush will confuse and frustrate him, he won't run away from defenders and makes bad decisions at times because of his inexperience and wills throws based on over confidence and the talent around him.

Overall:

Mark Sanchez comes from a Pro Style offense at USC and is probably a year or two away from starting and being an effective NFL quarterback. He will more then likely be a starter down the road considering his lack of experience, but his tendencies to make plays, his IQ and depending on the starting cast around him he could potentially step in day one and be an effective player. I think he's a better QB then Matt Leinart but he's not quite up to snuff of Carson Palmer. I think he projects as a great pro and he could easily be the face of a franchise for a long time considering his passion, love of the game and ability to smooth talk the media.

Projected NFL Destination:

With the 22nd selection in the NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select...

There you have it folks, be sure to tune in next week for Prospects #9 and #8!

South Carolina Pro Day

25 NFL teams were in attendance to watch the South Carolina Gamecock Pro Day. There was plenty of talent on display and here are the results courtesy of NFL.com:

Jamon Meredith (6-5, 304) measured in with 34 3/4-inch arms and he kept all of his numbers from the combine, but looked very good in position drills.

LB Jasper Brinkley (6-1 5/8, 249) looked very quick and fluid in all positional drills. Brinkley ran a 4.39 short shuttle, a 6.92 three-cone drill and stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine.

TE Jared Cook (6-4 5/8, 249) ran a 4.56 short shuttle and a 7.25 three-cone drill. Cook has drawn a lot of interest and has a pair of upcoming workouts scheduled.

WR Kenny McKinley (5-11 7/8, 190) stood on all of his numbers from the combine.

P Ryan Succop (6-2 3/8, 218) didn’t run and chose just to do positional workouts.

DB Carlos Thomas (5-11, 186) ran a 4.51 and 4.57 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.12 short shuttle and 7.09 three-cone drill. He also recorded a 33.5-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 10-inch broad jump and 12 bench press lifts.

CB Stoney Woodson (5-10 1/2, 196) ran a 4.53 and 4.57 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.35 in the short shuttle and 7.23 in the three-cone drill. He added a 33.5-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 3-inch broad jump and 15 strength lifts.

RB Mike Davis (5-9 1/8, 202) ran a 4.67 and 4.68 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.23 in the short shuttle and did not run the three-cone drill. Davis posted a 32.5-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 5-inch broad jump and 10 bench press reps.

CB Captain Munnerlyn (5-8 5/8, 186) posted a 4.44 and 4.41 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.04 in the short shuttle and a 7.05 in the three-cone drill as well as a 36.5-inch vertical jump.

S Emanuel Cook (5-9 3/4, 201) ran a 4.57 and 4.59 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.42 short shuttle, 7.11 three-cone drill and posted a 32-inch vertical jump.

Plenty of talent here, Jamon Meredith and Jared Cook are probably second rounders with potential for the top of the first. Jasper Brinkley is a third rounder with potential to go second round after his amazing Combine and Pro Day. Emanuel Cook and Munnerlyn are fourth rounders in all likelihood and then the rest will go between the 5th and UDFA.

-Matty

Hofstra Pro Day

18 teams were in attendance to watch the Hofstra Pro Day... it is just funny that the two players that stood out didn't go to Hofstra. Here are the results for those two players courtesy of NFL.com:

Maine DE/LB Jovan Belcher (6-1 3/8, 243) ran a 4.90 and 4.88 40-yard dash, 4.25 short shuttle and 7.07 three-cone drill. Belcher recorded a 30-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot broad jump and 19 bench press lifts.

Stony Brook DE James Harris (6-4, 263) ran a 5.15 and 5.19 40-yard dash, 4.72 short shuttle and an 8.33 three-cone drill. Harris added a 28-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot, 2-inch broad jump and 22 strength lifts.

UDFA written all over these fellas.

-Matty

Appalachian State Pro Day

Panthers were the only team to attend the Appalachian State Pro Day, that says something about the talent level that was on display. Here are the results courtesy of NFL.com of course:

WR T.J. Courman (5-8 1/8, 189) clocked in with a 4.60 and 4.57 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.25 short shuttle, and a time of 7.08 in the three-cone drill. Courman also posted a 33.5-inch vertical jump, 9-foot, 6-inch broad jump and 19 bench press lifts.

UDFA! UDFA! UDFA! OI! OI! OI!

-Matty

Clemson Pro Day

Reps from 25 NFL teams descended on Clemson to watch a wealth of talent work out for the upcoming NFL draft. There are no 1st round prospects to speak of, but there are some potential late day one and early day two prospects. James Davis, Michael Hamlin, Dorell Scott, Aaron Kelly and Chris Clemons to name a few. Here are their stats courtesy of NFL.com:

RB James Davis (5-10 7/8, 211) improved his 40-yard dash time of 4.6 recorded at the combine with times of 4.45 and 4.49 on Thursday. Davis stood on the rest of his numbers from Indianapolis.

DB Michael Hamlin (6-2 1/8, 209) pulled his hamstring warming up, and stood on his numbers from the combine.

S Chris Clemons (6-0 7/8, 211), DT Dorell Scott (6-3 1/4, 314) and WR Aaron Kelly (6-4 7/8, 202) stood on all of their numbers from the combine.

QB Cullen Harper (6-2 1/2, 217) ran a 4.90 and 4.86 in the 40-yard dash, a 7.33 in the three-cone drill and stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine.

DL Rashad Jackson (6-2, 298) ran a 5.25 and 5.29 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.94 short shuttle and 8.09 three-cone drill. Jackson posted a 27.5-inch vertical jump and 7-foot, 7-inch broad jump as well as 20 bench press lifts.

WR Tyler Grisham (5-10 1/8, 184) ran a 4.65 and 4.67 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.18 short shuttle and a 6.85 three-cone drill. Grisham added a 34-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 6-inch broad jump and 8 bench press reps.

Michigan State Pro Day

*sung to the tune of Turn the Page*

On a long and lonesome highway, east of Omaha, watching the Michigan State Spartans were 24 scouts. They don't feel much like writing but wish the draft through-ooh-ooh. Here I am, Javon Ringer said! Here I am, Brandon Long too! Here I go-ooh-ooh, play the star again. Here I go, Michigan State!

As you can tell, Javon Ringer and Brandon Long kicked it up a notch at the Michigan State Pro Day by absolutely destroying the track with blistering speed and incredible measurables. Javon Ringer ran one of the fastest short shuttle times ever recorded by being timed at 3.89! That is ridonk! To go along with that the 5'9" 203 lb. Ringer added a 4.50 forty yard dash and 6.66 three cone.

Ringer may have looked good but he didn't compare to the talk of the day in DE/LB Brandon "Where did I come from?" Long. The 6'3" 254 pounders turned in an icnredibly impressive performance by torching the forty yard dash with a 4.61 to go along with a 10'9" broad jump, 37.5" vertical jump, 4.37 short shuttle, 6.88 three cone drill and 32 reps with 225. Yeah, this boy is gonna be jumping up draft boards.

Here are the remaining Michigan State stats courtesy of NFL.com:

QB Brian Hoyer (6-1 7/8, 216 pounds) stood on all of his numbers from the combine.

S Otis Wiley (6-1, 212 pounds) ran times of 4.64 and 4.67 in the 40 with a 35 1/2-inch vertical and a 9-foot, 10-inch broad jump. He had a 4.34 short shuttle and a 6.97 three-cone drill, with 9 reps on the bench press.

OT Jesse Miller (6-6, 320 pounds) ran the 40 in 5.49 and 5.48 and had a 22-inch vertical leap and an 8-foot, 9-inch broad jump. He had a 4.85 short shuttle and a 7.81 three-cone drill, with 25 reps on the bench press.

I like Otis Wiley, but 9 reps from a STRONG safety, uhm, no thanks. Brian Hoyer is an interesting prospect in the 6th round and Jesse Miller is a UDFA at best.

-Matty

Washington State Pro Day

Per NFL Prospect analyst Gil Brandt:

The hot prospect at Washington State’s March 11 pro day was WR Brandon Gibson (6-0 1/8, 206 pounds). Just two teams came to watch the wide receiver work out, as he wasn’t expected to run, instead waiting to do so at a private workout at Seattle’s Chief Sealth High School on March 28. Gibson was among nine players to work out indoors on AstroTurf and did put up 10 bench-press repetitions.

Also noteworthy was the performance of QB Gary Rogers (6-6 3/8, 224 pounds), who ran 4.74 and 4.78 seconds in the 40-yard dash and posted a 35-inch vertical, a 9-foot, 2-inch broad jump, a 4.23-second short shuttle and a 6.99-second three-cone drill.

Gary Rogers is an interesting prospect but the real puzzle is Brandon Gibson who could easily be an early second day selection. But I won't know for sure until I find out how his private workouts go.

UPDATE: Brandon Gibson finally was able to work out, here are his results courtesy of NFL.com:

WR Brandon Gibson (6-0 1/8, 206 pounds) ran the 40 in 4.63 seconds against the wind and 4.58 and 4.60 seconds with it. He also had a 34-inch vertical leap, a 9-foot, 5-inch broad jump, and times of 4.54 seconds in the short shuttle and 6.94 seconds in the three-cone drill.

From the sounds of it, Gibson did not have a good workout and it will probably damage his stock quite a bit as he was never really that high name a prospect to begin with.

-Matty

William and Mary Pro Day

4 teams showed up to the William and Mary Pro Day, in basic terms that means Yawn. Here are the "results" per NFL.com:

CB Derek Cox (6-1 1/4, 188 pounds) had times of 4.39 and 4.42 seconds in the 40-yard dash, a 36 1/2-inch vertical and an 11-foot, 8-inch broad jump. He also had a 4.11-second short shuttle and a 6.80-second three-cone drill, and he did 12 reps on the bench press.

UDFA for the win.

-Matty

Grand Valley State Pro Day

17 NFL reps were in attendance to hopefully catch lightning in a bottle at the Grand Valley State Pro Day. GVS has produced some pretty talented prospects in the last couple years including stellar rookie standout CB Brandon Carr. There were three athletes of merit and here are their stats courtesy of NFL.com:

Grand Valley DL Dan Skuta (6-2 1/2, 249 pounds) worked at linebacker, fullback and halfback, had times of 4.76 and 4.72 seconds in the 40-yard dash, a 35-inch vertical and a 9-foot, 9-inch broad jump. He had a 4.42 short shuttle and a 7.05 three-cone drill, and he did 20 repetitions on the bench press.

Michigan Tech DB Robert Haynes (5-9 1/4, 191 pounds) ran 40 times of 4.38 and 4.43 and had a 38-inch vertical and a 10-foot, 6-inch broad jump. He went 4.21 in the short shuttle and 7.06 in the three-cone drill, and he did 26 reps on the bench press.

Hillsdale LB Tom Korte (6-0 1/4, 236 pounds) ran the 40 in 4.78 and 4.81 and had a 31 1/2-inch vertical and a 9-foot, 2-inch broad jump. He added times of 4.34 in the short shuttle and 7.16 in the three-cone drill, and he did 21 bench-press lifts.

None of these prospects ring any bells but they all look very promising, especially Skuta from GVS. He could be this years Spencer Larsen, an inside backer who doubled as a fullback and gunner on special teams. That kind of versatility might be worth a 6th or 7th round selection.

-Matty

Stillman Pro Day

Basically, Sammie Lee Hill Day. He worked out at the Alabama Pro Day and stood on his numbers from the Combine, a very ho-hum update. Hill himself is rocketing up draft boards and could go as early as the third round to a 3-4 team looking for a lockdown NT or a 4-3 looking for a massive and disruptive 1-Tech or NT. Not much to say really.

-Matty

Furman Pro Day

25 NFL teams, that's right, count em' 25 NFL teams were represented at the Furman Pro Day... unfortunately it wasn't due to any specific or amazing talent but more because Clemson had their Pro Day in the morning and Furman was on the way and scouts thought "Hey, might as well." Luckily, they were not disappointed, especially with fast rising OT Joel Bell working out.

Here are the results courtesy of NFL.com:

OT Joel Bell (6-7, 316 pounds) participated at the combine in Indianapolis, stood on most of his numbers, though he put up 29 repetitions on the bench press.

CB William Middleton (5-9 3/8, 193 pounds) had fast 40 times of 4.43 and 4.42 seconds, and he posted a 36 1/2-inch vertical and a 10-foot, 9-inch broad jump. He also had a 4.37 short shuttle and a 7.33 three-cone drill, and he did 21 reps on the bench press.

Joel Bell is likely a early to mid third round selection and Middleton could see himself move up draft boards to a sixth or even late fifth selection.

-Matty

UMass Pro Day

Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the stats of a moderately attended and highly underwhelming Pro Day! 8 NFL teams were in attendance to watch some former Minutemen work out at the UMass Pro Day. Yet again, no one that rings a bell so here are the stats courtesy of NFL.com once more:

OL Ben Coblyn (6-6 1/2, 304 pounds) ran times of 4.96 and 5.03 seconds in the 40-yard dash and had a 31-inch vertical leap and an 8-foot, 11-inch broad jump. He had a 4.68 time in the short shuttle and a 7.46 time in the three-cone drill, and he did 21 repetitions on the bench press at 225 pounds. His arms measured 35 7/8 inches.

DB Sean Smalls (6-0 1/8, 197 pounds) wasn’t feeling well at the pro day and didn’t want to run, but he eventually was talked into it. He will run again when he feels better, but no date has been set. He had a 4.78 time in his only attempt in the 40, and he also had a 33-inch vertical and a 9-foot, 11-inch broad jump. He had times of 4.18 in the short shuttle and 6.77 in the three-cone drill, and he did 13 reps on the bench press.

Coblyn could see draft potential but unless Smalls kills it in his next workout, he's an UDFA.

-Matty

Iowa State Pro Day

Guess what? Another lackluster Pro Day review! This time 8 NFL reps showed up at the Iowa State Pro Day and I can imagine they were incredibly surprised by the one prospect who blew up the testing drills. Here are the stats courtesy of NFL.com:

OL Doug Dedrick (6-3 3/4, 301 pounds) had times of 5.06 and 5.10 in the 40, and he had a 40 1/2-inch vertical and an 8-foot, 8-inch broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.63 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.77 seconds, and he added 21 reps on the bench press.

For an offensive lineman he had a really good workout, I don't think I've ever seen an offensive lineman reach a 40 in the vertical jump. He could see some draft consideration in the later rounds as he looks like a solid fit for a zone blocking scheme or could be a really good guard in a power scheme despite his lack of girth.

-Matty

Akron Pro Day

Ho-hum fellow readers, another slow Pro Day workout, this one for the Akron Zips. Here are the stats courtesy of NFL.com:

OL Chris Kemme (6-6, 306), who ran the 40 in 5.18 and 5.19 seconds and had a 29-inch vertical and a 9-foot broad jump. He had a 4.59 short shuttle and a 7.63 three-cone drill, and he did 25 reps on the bench press.

An offensive lineman with decent size and measurables, could see himself drafted in the 6th or 7th round, nothing more then that though.

-Matty

Towson Pro Day

6 NFL teams were represented at the Towson Pro Day. This is yet another in the line of one prospect wonders and even that one prospect is a guy I'm unfamiliar with. Here are the stats courtesy of NFL.com of course:

WR Tommy Breaux (6-6 7/8, 199 pounds) ran the 40 in 4.51 and 4.57 seconds and had a 35 1/2-inch vertical and an 11-foot, 5-inch broad jump. He had a 4.38 short shuttle and a 7.16 three-cone drill, and his arms measured 36 1/2 inches.

I'm gonna say he goes undrafted unless someone takes a flier on him in the 7th round based on his amazing size and ample speed. 6'7" + 4.5 speed = draft selection.

-Matty

Norfolk State Pro Day

Yet another one prospect wonder Pro Day as Norfolk State pretty much has only CB Don Carey to offer and 15 NFL teams were in attendance to see what he had to offer. His numbers are provided once again by the lovely people at NFL.com, where Football begins ;).

CB Don Carey (5-11 3/8, 192 pounds) showed off a 32 1/2-inch vertical leap and a 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump. He had a 4.20-second short shuttle and a 6.87-second three-cone drill, but he didn’t participate in the bench press and stood on his 40-yard dash times from the combine.

He has drawn a lot of interest lately, especially from the Dolphins who worked him out at the Pro Day. He could easily be a 4th or 5th round selection.

-Matty

Temple Pro Day

This Pro Day was pretty simple, 10 teams were in attendance to watch Temple DT Terrance Knighton workout. He really looked good at the combine, he has incredible legs, huge thighs and butt and would be a great anchor in a 3-4 defense as a NT. I can see him being a fourth rounder for a team that needs a nose tackle as there are very few 2 gappers available.

Here are his stats courtesy of NFL.com:

DT Terrance Knighton (6-3 1/4, 317 pounds), who had 40 times of 4.93 and 5.06, a 29-inch vertical and an 8-foot, 9-inch broad jump. He also had a 4.64 short shuttle, a 7.22 three-cone drill and 21 repetitions on the bench press.

I honestly cannot believe he broke 5 seconds in the forty yard dash at his size. I think he will really surprise some people with where he is drafted.

North Dakota State Pro Day

12 NFL teams were in attendance to watch the North Dakota State Pro Day. I honestly don't know any of these players so I'll let NFL prospect analyst Gil Brandt handle it, here are their results courtesy of NFL.com:

RB Tyler Roehl (5-9 3/4, 233 pounds) turned in times of 4.53 and 4.55 seconds in the 40-yard dash, a 30-inch vertical and an 8-foot, 10-inch broad jump. He had a 4.20 short shuttle and a 7.28 three-cone drill, and he did 30 reps on the bench press.

TE Jerimiah Wurzbacher (6-5 1/8, 247 pounds) had times of 4.81 and 4.82 in the 40, a 33-inch vertical and a 9-foot, 3-inch broad jump. He had a 4.53 short shuttle and a 7.21 three-cone drill, and he did 17 reps on the bench.

S Nick Schommer (6-0, 201 pounds) ran the 40 in 4.61 and 4.58, and he had a 34 1/2-inch vertical and a 9-foot, 10-inch broad jump. He had a 4.31 short shuttle and a 6.75 three-cone drill, and he did 11 reps on the bench.

I think all three guys are UDFA as I don't know much about any of them and if I don't, then I don't think it speaks highly of their draft stock.

Houston Pro Day

17 NFL teams were present to watch the Houston Cougar's Pro Day. There were three talents of intrigue including top NCAA sack artist DE/LB Philip Hunt and massive German OT Sebastian Vollmer who were not invited to the combine and undoubtedly should have been.

I'm personally a big fan of Philip Hunt and I think he could go as early as the third round considering his size and ability to get to the quarterback, he could easily be a defensive end in a 4-3 or an OLB in a 3-4 and his stats speak volumes. As for Vollmer, he is a big and nasty offensive tackle with limitless upside and great size that a team will not likely pass up in the the fourth or fifth round.

Regardless, here are the stats courtesy of NFL.com:

OL Sebastian Vollmer (6-7 1/2, 312 pounds) turned in times of 5.13 and 5.16 seconds in the 40-yard dash and also had a 36 1/2-inch vertical and a 9-foot, 3-inch broad jump. He had a 4.50 short shuttle and a 7.51 three-cone drill, and he did 32 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press.

DE/LB Phillip Hunt (6-0 7/8, 244 pounds) had times of 4.75 and 4.76 in the 40, an impressive 41 1/2-inch vertical and a 9-foot, 8-inch broad jump. He had a 4.22 short shuttle and a 6.91 three-cone drill, and he did 14 reps on the bench. He took part in drills to show he could pass rush and drop into coverage.

OL Sir Vincent Rogers (6-3 5/8, 306 pounds) ran the 40 in 5.34 and 5.35 seconds and had a 29-inch vertical and an 8-foot, 7-inch broad jump. He had a 4.75 short shuttle and a 7.39 three-cone drill.

-Matty

Nevada Pro Day

18 NFL teams were present to watch the Nevada Wolf Pack Pro Day. There are only two real athletes of intrigue for the Wolf Pack and that is WR Marko Mitchell and LB Josh Mauga. Both are mid round prospects on day two and here are their numbers courtesy of NFL.com:

OLB Josh Mauga (6-1 5/8, 246 pounds) was really impressive. He looked good in position drills and had times of 4.61 and 4.64 seconds in the 40. He had a 32 1/2-inch vertical and an 8-foot, 10-inch broad jump. He also had a 4.27 short shuttle and a 7.30 three-cone drill, and his arms measured 33 1/2 inches.

WR Marko Mitchell (6-4, 213 pounds) stood on most of his numbers from the combine, but he turned in a 32 1/2-inch vertical and a 10-foot, 3-inch broad jump. His arms measured 34 3/4 inches.

Northern Illinois Pro Day

Numerous NFL teams were present at the Northern Illinois Pro Day, otherwise known as the Larry English Pro Day as he is the only Northern Illinois Huskie of any merit this draft season and he put on a show for the coaches and scouts in attendance.

DE/LB Larry English measured in at 6'2" and weighed in at 251 pounds. English had times of 4.70 and 4.74 in the 40-yard dash, and he did position drills as a defensive end and dropped back into coverage. I think Larry English is a first round pick as a 4-3 LDE or a 3-4 WOLB. He has great speed, strength and intensity and I really love how he plays the game.

Here are the remaining stats courtesy of NFL.com:

Britt Davis (6-2 5/8, 211) posted times of 4.50 and 4.51 in the 40-yard dash, 4.27 in the short shuttle and 7.14 in the three-cone drill. Davis recorded a 33-inch vertical jump, 10-foot, 5-inch broad jump and 16 strength lifts.

Matt Simon (6-1 3/8, 199) ran a 4.49 and 4.51 in the 40-yard dash, 4.41 short shuttle and 7.14 three-cone drill. Simon added a 36-inch vertical jump, 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump and 14 bench press lifts.

Mississippi State Pro Day

8 NFL teams attended the Mississippi State Pro Day to watch 22 athletes from the Bulldogs and other local schools. The big name prospect was safety Derek Pegues who could see himself drafted in the third or fourth round. He's a solid prospect who projects as a free safety in the NFL. Here are the results for the Pro Day courtesy once again of the great people at NFL.com:

DB Derek Pegues (5-9 5/8, 194 pounds), who mostly stood on his numbers from the combine, though he participated in position drills and turned in times of 4.57 and 4.54 in the 40-yard dash.

WR Jamayel Smith (6-0 3/8, 186 pounds) looked great with times of 4.50 and 4.52 in the 40 and a 39-inch vertical with a 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump. He also had a 4.00 short-shuttle and ran a 6.82 three-cone drill, with 13 reps on the bench press.

-Matty

Utah State Pro Day

20 NFL teams showed up to watch some of the Utah State prospects work out. There were only two names that stood out including a tight end who is drawing comparisons to Washington Redskin All Pro Chris Cooley. Lets hope he's a little more aware when photographing himself with his playbook.

Here are the results courtesy of NFL.com:

TE Rob Myers (6-3 1/8, 238 pounds), missed the entire 2008 season due to injury but was still invited to the NFL combine. Myers ran 4.63 and 4.58 in the 40, though he strained his left hamstring running the second one. He had a 30½-inch vertical with a 9-foot, 9-inch broad jump and times of 4.23 in the short shuttle and 7.15 in the three-cone drill. He did 22 reps on the bench press.

S De’von Hall (6-2 3/4, 212 pounds) ran times of 4.53 and 4.48 in the 40 with an impressive 39-inch vertical and a 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump. He had times of 4.24 in the short shuttle and 6.95 in the three-cone drill and put up 26 reps on the bench press.

Both Utah State athletes tested well and could see themselves drafted based on potential alone but it won't be until the late second day.

-Matty

Jackson State Pro Day

Yet another one prospect wonder Pro Day as 15 teams descended on tiny Jackson State to essentially watch Domonique Johnson work out. Here are his subpar numbers courtesy of NFL.com writer Gil Brandt:

CB Domonique Johnson (6-2, 188 pounds) turned in times of 4.57, 4.52 and 4.54 in the 40-yard dash, with a 4.28 time in the short shuttle and a 7.21 in the three-cone drill. He took part in position drills but stood on his numbers from the combine in the jumps and on the bench press.

He's a mid rounder based on potential alone, but for a guy who was supposed to tear up the forty yard dash, he has done little to impress anyone, but his size and skill could see him drafted between the 4th and 5th round.

-Matty

Alcorn State Pro Day

Another lackluster Pro Day result blog is coming up, the small school Alcorn State had six players working out. The only one of any merit is OLB Lee Robinson, here are his results courtesy of Gil Brandt and NFL.com:

OLB Lee Robinson (6-2 1/8, 247 pounds) looked the best, with times of 4.78 and 4.94 in the 40 with a 9-foot, 5-inch broad jump. He finished the short shuttle in 4.47 and the three-cone drill in 7.23 and participated in position drills.

He's a second day, mid to late rounder at best.

-Matty

Rutgers Pro Day

27 NFL teams were represented on the March 26th for the Rutgers Pro Day. Wide receiver Kenny Britt was focal point of the workouts running 4.47 in the forty yard dash and looking solid in the positional drills, but he has some fellow teammates who could easily see consideration come draft day, here are the results courtesy of NFL.com:

TE Kevin Brock (6-5 1/2, 255) ran a 4.64 and 4.67 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.28 short shuttle and a 6.81 in the three-cone drill. Brock also recorded a 34-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 11-inch broad jump and 23 bench press reps.

S Courtney Green posted a 9-foot, 11-inch broad jump and stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine.

DB Jason McCourty (5-11 7/8, 193) ran a 4.30 and 4.34 40-yard dash, a 4.28 short shuttle and a 6.76 three-cone drill. McCourty also posted a 36.5-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 5-inch broad jump and 15 bench press lifts.

WR Tiquan Underwood (6-1 1/4, 178) ran a 4.36 and 4.40 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.16 in the short shuttle and stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine.

DE/LB Jamaal Westerman (6-2 1/8, 257) ran a 4.81 and 4.78 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.38 short shuttle and a 7.03-three-cone drill. Westerman also posted 20 bench press reps.

QB Mike Teel (6-3 1/8, 225) ran a 5.17 and 5.13 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.59 short shuttle and 7.69 three-cone drill. Teel also posted a 28.5-inch vertical jump and 8-foot, 8-inch broad jump.

A lot of these Rutgers players should get some sniffs come draft day, Courtney Greene and Tiquan Underwood are likely early 2nd day players. Mike Teel and Jamaal Westerman are probably mid-late second day players and I will say this, I've played against Westerman when he was an undersized defensive end just beginning to make a name for himself in Canada and he is a talented player who works incredibly hard and his speed and explosions was something I had never seen before. I can see him making a roster and in a few years becoming a solid special teams and situational player.

San Diego State Pro Day

25 reps from 25 NFL teams showed up in San Diego to watch the Aztec Pro Day. This included vaunted Tennessee running back Arian Foster working out for scouts as well, not sure why, but who am I to judge? Anyways, here are the results courtesy of NFL.com:

LB Russell Allen (6-2 3/4, 230) ran a 4.64 and a 4.63 in the 40-yard dash. Allen posted a 33.5-inch vertical jump, 9-foot, 10-inch broad jump, 4.34 short shuttle, 7.21 three-cone drill and 24 bench press reps.

OL Lance Louis (6-2 3/8, 303) drew a lot of attention from scouts interested in his speed. He ran a 4.76 and 4.80 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.71 in the short shuttle and 8.03 in the three-cone drill. Lewis also posted a 30-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot, 8-inch broad jump and 30 bench press lifts.

Tennessee RB Arian Foster (6-1, 224) lives in the San Diego area and took the opportunity to show off his skills in front of scouts. Foster ran a 4.73 and 4.69 in the 40-yard dash, 4.53 in in the short shuttle and 7.09 in the three-cone drill. He also posted a 32-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot, 7-inch broad jump.

University of San Diego WR John Matthews (5-11 3/4, 200) ran a 4.52 and 4.54 in the 40-yard dash and recorded a 32-inch vertical jump.

Linebacker Russell Allen has been getting some looks and could see himself drafted mid-day on the second day of the draft. Arian Foster should get the same stock treatment as well despite not being an Aztec, the remainder will likely be UDFA.

Marshall Pro Day

10 NFL teams were in attendance to watch the Marshall Thunder Herd Pro Day. There a couple talents worthy of note here, WR Darrius Passmore is one and S C.J. Spillman is the other. Here are their results courtesy of NFL.com:

WR Darius Passmore (6-0 1/2, 189) ran a 4.53 and 4.46 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.37 in the short shuttle and 6.53 in the three-cone drill. Passmore posted a 9-foot, 3-inch broad jump, 11 bench press reps and did not take part in the vertical jump.

S C.J. Spillman (6-0, 196) took part in position drills and stood on all his numbers from the combine.

LB Maurice Kitchens (6-1 5/8, 248) ran a 4.89 and a 4.92 in the 40-yard dash, posted a 31-inch vertical jump, 9-foot, 11-inch broad jump, 4.41 short shuttle, 7.01 three-cone drill and 23 bench press lifts.

Central Florida Pro Day

There's nada on the UCF Pro Day so here is the little blurb NFL.com prospect analyst Gil Brandt wrote:

"Central Florida’s March 26 pro day was held indoors on FieldTurf. The highlight amongst the 11 players who worked out in front of representatives from 12 teams was DB Joe Burnett, who stood on all his numbers from the combine, but looked sharp in his positional workouts."

Joe Burnett has really helped himself this draft season, he's a great corner, he's an amazing special teams player and he's a former All-American returner. Someone is going to find tremendous value in grabbing him in the 3rd or 4th round.

-Matty

Ole Miss Pro Day

65 reps from all 32 NFL teams were in attendance to watch the Ole Miss Rebels Pro Day and to catch a glimpse of OT Michael Oher in his natural habitat and for the first workout of DT Peria Jerry who was unable to test at the combine.

Michael Oher measured in a 6'5" and weighed in at 306 pounds, he improved his forty time immensely by running a 5.16, he also added a 31" vertical jump and 23 reps with 225, which is 2 more then what he did at the combine. He looked very good in his positional workouts, all the scouts agreed his footwork was impeccable and that he will no doubt be an asset to a team in pass blocking and he has all the talents required of a LT at the next level.

As for the remaining Rebels, here are their results courtesy of NFL.com:

DL Peria Jerry (6-1 7/8, 290 pounds) posted only one 40-yard dash time of 4.98. Jerry also recorded a 31-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 6-inch broad jump, 4.64 short shuttle, 7.30 three-cone drill and 28 bench press reps.

OL Maurice Miller (6-3, 325) ran a 5.39 and 5.38 in the 40-yard dash, which was an improvement over his time of 5.47 at the combine. He also posted a 31-inch vertical jump and 24 bench press lifts.

FB Jason Cook (5-11 3/8, 241) recorded a 4.72 and 4.71 in the 40-yard dash, a 33.5-inch vertical jump, a 4.38 short shuttle, 7.20 three-cone drill and 22 bench press reps.

WR Mike Wallace (6-0 1/2, 194) kept stood on all his numbers from the combine and did positional drills.

DB Jamarca Sanford (5-9 3/4, 209) ran a 4.46 and 4.43 in the 40-yard dash and a 7.22 in the three-cone drill.

Peria Jerry should be a 1st rounder, Mike Wallace and Jamarc Sanford are mid round prospects and everyone else is 7th round or UDFA.

Southern Mississippi Pro Day

18 NFL teams had members in attendance to watch the Southern Mississippi Pro Day. No big results to be had as both high profile talents TE Shawn Nelson and Gerald McGrath stood on their combine numbers and just did positional work, but both have definitely moved themselves into 1st day consideration. Especially Nelson who could be the Dustin Keller of this years draft, only a better blocker and not as explosive up the field.

Here are the results courtesy of NFL.com:

TE Shawn Nelson (6-4 7/8, 242) did positional workouts and kept all of his numbers from the combine.

OL Ryan McKee (6-6 3/8, 293) ran a 5.03 and a 5.12 in the 40-yard dash. McKee posted a 31-inch vertical jump, a 4.67 in the short shuttle and a 7.50 in the three-cone drill. He did not do any bench press reps due to a shoulder injury.

OLB Gerlad McRath (6-1 3/4, 228) did 21 bench press reps and stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine.

-Matty

Miami of Ohio Pro Day

10 NFL teams were represented for the Miami of Ohio Pro Day and some other players from local schools. There are really no prospects of any merit so here are the results for the most noteworthy courtesy of NFL.com:

TE Jake O’Connell (6-3 1/8, 250) ran a 4.66 and 4.69 in the 40-yard dash, posted a 41-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump, a 4.38 in the short shuttle, 6.91 in the three-cone drill and 28 bench press reps.

P Jake Richardson (6-0 1/4, 205) recorded a 33-inch vertical jump and 16 bench press reps.

Big ol' meh for these guys.

-Matty

Rice Pro Day

15 NFL teams were represented at the Rice Pro Day and the chief talent among the Owl contingent is the ridiculously productive wide receiver Jarrett Dillard. Here are the results courtesy of NFL.com:

WR Jarett Dillard (5-10 1/2, 187) showed very good hands during positional workouts. Dillard posted a 4.50 and a 4.53 in the 40-yard dash, a 40.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot, 11-inch broad jump. He stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine.

TE James Casey (6-3 5/8, 243) ran a 4.80 and a 4.79 in the 40-yard dash and stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine.

Clement (6-0 5/8, 208) ran a 4.63 and a 4.60 in the 40-yard dash, posted a 28.5-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 2-inch broad jump, a 4.16 short shuttle and a 7.43 in the three-cone drill.

Dillard and Casey are early second day prospects, Clement will likely go undrafted.

-Matty

Wake Forest Pro Day

All 32 NFL teams were represented at the Wake Forest Pro Day to watch potential top 3 selection Aaron Curry and potential late first round cornerback Alphonso "Prime" Smith. Neither prospect decided to run, lift or test in any way as they were satisfied with their Scouting Combine numbers, and they should be as both players looked really good, fluid and explosive.

As for Aaron Curry, Gil Brandt reported the following; "It took Curry awhile to get going on some bag drills, but once he got warmed up, it was easy to see the athleticism that, combined with his football skills, make him a projected high pick. Some of the folks I spoke to love Curry because they say he never has a down game — that he plays at a high level week in and week out and that he is the safest bet in the draft."

However, if there is one spot that Curry does not excel in it would be his pass rush skills as he does not have the abilities of say a Brian Cushing, Clint Sintim or Clay Matthews who can play strongside linebacker and stack against the run while rushing the passer with intensity, Curry lacks that ability which makes some teams think that he would be a better fit an MLB in a 4-3 or 3-4 scheme. He plays sideline to sideline, he's intelligent, he diagnoses plays well, he stacks against the run well, he sheds blockers and he's a reliable tackler, everything a team looks for from their guy in the middle.

As for 'Phonso, Gil Brandt had the following to say regarding his Pro Day work out; "As for Smith, he was very solid in defensive back drills. The projected late-first, early second-rounder performed as expected but his height — he measured just under 5-foot-9 — has teams concerned. He did not do any punt/kick return drills, but he said he would have if asked. He was not asked. Smith said if being a returner helps his draft stock, he’s open to it."

Smith is an amazing man to man cover corner with all the abilities to be a great player in someone's secondary, it is unfortunate that his height is giving so many scouts fits as it is all there on the tape, he covers some of the bigger receivers in the NCAA without fail and I feel that he is a football player through and through and his height shouldn't dictate where he is drafted, unfortunately for Prime, scouts and GMs don't feel the same way I do.

Either way, both Wake Forest prospects looked good and it should be interesting to see where they get drafted come April.

UPDATE: Here are the results for the remaining Wake Forest players after the previous entry I made highlighting LB Aaron Curry and CB Alphonso Smith courtesy of NFL.com:

DB Chip Vaughn (6-1 5/8, 220) stood on all his numbers from the combine.

LB Stanley Arnoux (6-0 1/8, 232) posted a 31-inch vertical jump, a 4.37 short shuttle, 7.02 three-cone drill and 20 bench press reps. He kept his 40-yard dash and broad jump numbers from the combine.

K Sam Swank (6-0 5/8, 198) did positional workouts.

Connecticut Pro Day

21 teams were in attendance to watch the Connecticut Pro Day, including Patriot's head coach Bill Belichick. Connecticut has never had a player drafted in the first round but could see as many as 3 drafted in this upcoming draft including RB Donald Brown, OT William Beatty and CB Darius Butler.

Starting with Brown, he stood on his numbers from the combine as he worked out very well there and was a top performer in almost all categories. He did positional drills and looked very good catching the ball and running it, he has definitely jumped up in draft boards and may even have licked Knowshon Moreno as the number #2 back on some people's draft boards. I still have him as an early 2 but he could easily move into the late 1st consideration for a team like Arizona or Philadelphia.

As for Butler, he secured his spot in the 1st round by running a blistering 4.38 forty yard dash. Down quite a bit from his 4.5+ at the combine. He has great feet, change of direction and hips and could easily be taken as high as the mid twenties and probably won't fall past Baltimore. I think he is an elite corner and combines great technique with high potential.

William Beatty is on the cusp on the first round, he has great athleticism and skill but he is very raw as a run blocker despite the 2000+ yards for Donald Brown. I think he fits ideally in a zone blocking scheme because of his ability to get off the ball and his technique is very impressive, i can see him being a late first round selection to maybe the Steelers but he probably won't fall past the Packers in the second round.

The last prospect of intrigue is Cody Brown who helped himself as well by running in the 4.6 range after running 4.8 at the combine. He is a down lineman who has spent time at outside backer and would likely transition to a SLB in a 4-3 or a WOLB in a 3-4. He knows hot to rush and cover but needs to work better against the run. He could be a late 1st day selection or an early 2nd day selection.

Texas Pro Day

Everyone was on pins and needles in Austin recently for the annual Texas Longhorns Pro Day event. Always a favourite among scouts for the way it is put together, conducted and executed. The team reps came by the thousands (Ok... maybe 50, but still a lot) to see the high profile defensive end Brian Orakpo work out.

Orakpo hurt himself at the combine and wasn't quite able to do all the drills that teams would have liked to have seen. He went through most of the d-line drills but was absent for the linebacker ones which is why his Pro Day workout was so important and he didn't disappoint. He worked out as a defensive end and as a linebacker and showed great speed, explosion, strength and athleticism and he looked very good in all his drills. He weighed in at 262 pounds and measured in just over 6'3", he also did some more tests; a 10'10" broad jump, a time of 4.45 in the short shuttle and 7.26 in the three-cone drill.

Two prospects of intrigue were Quan Cosby and Chris Ogbonnaya and according to NFL.com, they had productive and impressive workouts as well.

"Also noteworthy were the performances by WR Quan Cosby (5-9, 198 pounds) and RB Chris Ogbonnaya (5-11 7/8, 220 pounds), who both looked very good catching the ball from former Iowa QB Drew Tate. Ogbonnaya stood on his numbers from the combine, while Cosby posted a 34.5-inch vertical jump a 4.34 short shuttle, 28 bench press reps and stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine."

Here are the remaining stats for the Texas contingent courtesy of NFL.com once more.

DB Ryan Palmer (5-8 3/8, 187) ran a 4.62 and 4.58 in 40-yard dash, posted a 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump, a 4.20 short shuttle and a 7.00 three-cone drill. Palmer stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine.

OL Cedric Dockery (6-3 1/4, 314), brother of Redskins OG Derrick Dockery, ran a 5.40 in the 40-yard dash, but pulled his hamstring. Dockery posted a 28-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot, 4-inch broad jump, and a 4.97 short shuttle.

DT Roy Miller (6-1 5/8, 312) ran a 4.93 and a 4.94 in the 40-yard dash and stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine.

DE Henry Melton (6-3 1/2, 269) ran a 4.64 and 4.66 in the 40-yard dash, posted a 34.5-inch vertical jump and 10-foot, 1-inch broad jump.

DE Aaron Lewis (6-3 1/8, 277) ran a 5.01 and 5.05 in the 40-yard dash and posted a 30.5-inch vertical jump and and 8-foot, 11-inch broad jump.

Also working out was Joseph Davis (6-5 1/8, 211), a world-class long-jumper. In addition to catching passes in position drills, Davis ran a 4.67 and 4.68 in the 40-yard dash and posted a 36.5-inch vertical jump and 10-foot, 10-inch broad jump.

Iowa Pro Day

29 NFL teams were in attendance at the Iowa Pro Day to watch 10 prospects workout, among the most highly touted of the Hawkeyes is reigning Doak Walker award winner Shonn Greene. A big bruising back who looked a tad slow at the Combine, if he can rebound at his Pro Day then he could easily put himself back into 1st day contention, as well as Greene is the interesting prospect, defensive lineman Mitch King. Not sure whether he is a defensive end or a defensive tackle but what I do know is he is a player. So, without further delay here are the results from the Pro Day.

RB Shonn Greene (5-10 1/2, 227) ran a 4.55 and 4.59 in the 40, had a 39-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 6-inch broad jump, a 4.25 short shuttle and did 23 bench press reps.

OL Seth Olsen (6-4 1/2, 305) had a 28-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot, 7-inch broad jump and did 28 bench press reps.

CB Bradley Fletcher (6-0 1/8, 193) ran a 4.44 and 4.45 in the 40, had a 40-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 7-inch broad jump and a 4.22 short shuttle.

DL Mitch King (6-1 3/8, 278) ran a 4.89 and 4.92 in the 40, had a 33 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 4-inch broad jump, a 4.40 short shuttle, a 7.55 three-cone drill and did 25 bench press reps.

TE Brandon Myers (6-3 3/8, 250) ran a 4.79 and 4.78 in the 40, had a 31-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 8-inch broad jump, a 4.45 short shuttle and a 7.36 three-cone drill and did 17 bench press reps.

C Rob Bruggeman (6-4, 293) ran a 5.05 and 5.09 in the 40, had a 33-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot, 8-inch broad jump, a 4.69 short shuttle, a 7.69 three-cone drill and did 32 bench press reps.

Tennessee Pro Day

It was Lane and Monte Kiffin's first big shindig as the new Head Coach and DC of the Tennessee Volunteers and they had quite the talent to show off. All 32 NFL teams had someone in attendance and most were likely there to watch the defensive end who has been sky rocketing up draft boards since his performance at the Senior Bowl in Robert "Ay-Ay-Ay" Ayers. Ayers has the kind of skill and grit to be a 4-3 defensive end but he also has the versatility and ability to be a stand up rush linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.

Robert Ayers weighed in 272 pounds and measured at just a bit over 6'3". He decided to keep most of his numbers from the combine as they were quite good but he did run 4.46 short shuttle and a 7.07 three-cone drill. However, teams were more concerned with his positional workouts as he worked out as both a defensive end and linebacker and was said to have looked good.

As for the remaining Tennessee contingent, their stats can be found here courtesy of our bromosexuals at NFL.com:

RB Arian Foster was a no-show, but worked out this past weekend at San Diego State. Results are not available.

OL Anthony Parker (6-1 3/4, 290 pounds) ran a 5.08 and 5.10 in the 40, had a 26-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot, 3-inch broad jump, a 4.80 short shuttle and a 7.90 three-cone drill.

DT Demonte’ Bolden (6-3 3/4, 294 pounds) ran a 4.96 and 4.95 in the 40, had a 33-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 5-inch broad jump, a 4.46 short shuttle and 26 bench press reps.

OL Ramon Foster (6-5, 327 pounds) was sick with the flu and did not work out.

DB DeAngelo Willingham (5-11, 217 pounds) ran a 4.49 and 4.46 in the 40, had a 36-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 6-inch broad jump, a 4.36 short shuttle, a 6.81 three-cone drill and did 20 bench press reps. He looked sharp in the position drills and improved his draft status.

WR Lucas Taylor (5-11 1/4, 189 pounds) ran a 4.36 and 4.38 in the 40, had a 36-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump, a 6.91 three-cone drills and did 14 bench press.

Of these prospects, Arian and Ramon Foster should see looks towards the end of Day 2 but I'm really liking what DeAngelo Willingham has done for himself, as a corner with decent speed, great strength and explosion and solid corner skills, I think he could find himself going a lot sooner on Draft Day.

Pittsburgh Pro Day

26 NFL teams were represented at the recent Pittsburgh Pro Day, most of them eagerly anticipating the first workout by high value prospect LeSean 'Shady' McCoy. McCoy was unable to run at the Scouting Combine due to an illness and still has yet to work out for any team, well he got his opportunity at the Pro Day and hopefully he made the most of it...

From the wonderful folks at NFL.com, here's how Shady fared during his time to shine.

McCoy (5-10 5/8, 204) He ran a 4.50 and 4.51 in the 40, had a 29-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot, 11-inch broad jump, a 4.18 short shuttle, a 6.82 three-cone drill and did 17 bench press reps.

Those are fairly good numbers for a guy who hasn't been able to work out and probably lost a lot of strength and speed, I think he could definitely stand to improve his vertical and broad jump as that is evidence that he looks the quick twitch and explosion that teams will be looking to get from a back with his running style. I think he has hurt himself a bit and maybe put himself out of first round contention but I have a feeling that the Eagles will find a way to grab him and allow him some time to learn from Westbrook and become their weapon of the future.

As for the remaining Panthers, here is how their stat line went down courtesy one more time of the wonderful folks at NFL.com:

LB Scott McKillop (6-1, 245 pounds) stood on all his combine numbers, but did position drills with Bills linebackers coach Matt Sheldon and Eagles linebackers coach Bill Shuey in attendance.

WR Derek Kinder (6-0¼, 202 pounds) ran a 4.54 and 4.60 in the 40, had a 36½-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 1-inch broad jump, a 4.10 short shuttle, a 6.64 three-cone drill and did 12 bench presses.

FB Conredge Collins (5-11¼, 224 pounds) ran a 4.72 and 4.64 in the 40, had a 34½-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot broad jump, a 4.18 short shuttle, a 6.93 three-cone drill and did 24 bench press reps.

OL C.J. Davis (6-2, 308 pounds) ran a 5.55 and 5.61 in the 40, had a 24½-inch vertical jump, a 4.62 short shuttle, a 7.64 three-cone drill and did 23 bench press reps.

P Dave Brytus (6-3¾, 223 pounds) did position drills.

S Eric Thatcher (5-9 1/8, 200 pounds) ran a 4.71 and 4.75 in the 40, had a 37-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 11-inch broad jump, a 4.25 short shuttle, a 6.97 three-cone drill and did 16 bench press reps.

The only other prospect from Pittsburgh I like is Scott McKillop who figures to be a late 3rd to mid 4th round selection, the rest won't get looks until later or UDFA period.

Matty's Big Board Prospect Countdown: 11!

So, without further delay, I bring you the player who ranked number 11...

11. Michael Oher, OT Mississippi Rebels

2008 Season Stats:
1st team All American

Career Stats:
07 1st team All-SEC 06 2nd team All-SEC

Personal Stats:
6'4" 309 lbs. SR

Strengths:

Michael Oher has great athleticism and skill, he has a solid body type that can still add some extra weight while keeping his athletic ability, he has long arms to keep defensive lineman off his body and he has solid footwork to keep in stride with the faster ends as he has great quickness and balance. He has good game strength and is a solid pass blocker who doesn't need to give up ground to faster ends and can anchor against stronger ends as he's played against great competition in the SEC. He's solid in the run game as well, he knows how to place his hands and control defenders and plays with a nasty demeanor as he finished his blocks. He also has solid durability and still might have some untapped potential.

Weaknesses:

Oher's biggest weakness are the two I's; Inconsistency and intelligence. He has a the potential and ability to be a dominating left tackle but he doesn't always play up to his potential and allows weaker opponents to dominate him when he should be dominating them. He lacks the intelligence to process line calls and identify stunts and blitzes as he tends to get confused and allows defenders free run to the quarterback. He gets too high in his stance and needs to be better coached up on his technique as it can sloppy at times and he may require constant attention from a coach to keep him from severe mental lapses. He could also stand to improve his functional strength as well, but his 19 reps at the Combine might be due to his long arms as well.

Overall:

Oher projects as a solid RT or LT at the next level as he has the physicality, the agility and athleticism to play on the edge and handle the elite speed that NFL defensive ends will provide week in and week out. I think he will start his career off as a RT with a team with an establish LT who is nearing the end of his career or tenure with the team and once he starts adapting to the playbook, learns the calls and becomes familiar with his linemates I think he can move over to the left side but I would be afraid to put him on the left side right away because the defense's put their best athletes on that side and his tendencies to become confused would allow for QBs to be blindsides more often then not.

Projected NFL Destination:

With the 12th selection in the NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select...

There you have it folks, be sure to tune in later this week for Prospect #10!

Stephen F. Austin Pro Day

12 NFL teams showed up to watch athletes from "Stone Cold" Stephen F. Austin workout and brave the incredibly powerful winds that were recorded at up to 20 mph! (That's over 32 KMs/hr for us Canadians!)

Here are the results courtesy of NFL.com, but be warned, Stone Cold U is likely not to see any prospects get drafted until at the very earliest late seventh based on potential and measureables alone.

WR Dominique Edison (6-2 3/8, 196 pounds) ran a 4.42 in the 40 with the wind and a 4.53 against the wind, and turned in a 7.09 time in the three-cone drill.

TE Tyrell Williams (6-4 3/8, 252 pounds) turned in 40 times of 4.72 seconds and 4.95 seconds. He had a 32-inch vertical and a 10-foot, 1-inch broad jump, with times of 4.40 in the short shuttle and 7.50 in the three-cone drill. He did 17 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Texas A&M FB Jorvorskie Lane (5-11 7/8, 297 pounds) was going to work out at Stephen F. Austin, but pro day rules didn’t permit it, so he went to a nearby high school in Lufkin, Texas, to work out for scouts. He ran outdoors on FieldTurf, and had 40-yard dash times of 5.00 and 5.11. He didn’t do the vertical leap but had an 8-foot, 9-inch broad jump with a 4.51 short shuttle and a 7.64 three-cone drill. He did 17 reps on the bench.
